Expandables 2 Review

Expendables second part is a bizarre mix of cliché and predictability. A too simple story line with unwanted special appearances to give it an all star feel has literally destroyed the entire movie. Apart from some brutal fight sequences and occasional cool dialogs, there is nothing in the movie to make it an interesting watch.
In this new episode, Barney Ross and his gang are on a mission to get destroying the villain who wants to sell plutonium from an old soviet reactor. Barney first accepts the offer from agent Church to get a lady Maggy to a plane shot on Albania to retrieve particular blue print information. But as he loses a key man of his group during that mission, Barney and the gang decides to take revenge on the villain and on their way to this they happen to save lives and of cause gets aided by the retired superheroes.
The basic problem of the movie is the lame and outdated story. The script of the movie is filled with clichés and overdose of heroism which we just can’t accept in a Hollywood movie. The characters of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Chuck Norris don’t have anything to do with the content. Schwarzenegger and Chuck were at least used stupidly to help the team when there was no way for them to get out of some mess ups. But Bruce Willis and Jet Lee were totally Zero.
On screen, well the main spotlight was basically on Stallone and Stathom. They have done their parts smartly. The rest of the cast including Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Yu Nan was satisfying. It was really sad to see Arnold in such a bad shape. Bruce Willis was cool in his role.
Off screen, direction is not that fresh. Screenplay is a bizarre mix of heroism and predictability. Some dialogs are there to make it interesting. I really loved the dialog by Arnold when Stallone says that the plane is Museum stuff. Fight was brutal and cool. VFX wasn’t that impressive with no natural blend.
If you are someone who screams for mass masala action movies with too thin content, this one will be the right choice for you. But as a quality Hollywood flick, this one is a galaxy away. I am giving 1.5/5 for this Simon West. Sylvester Stallone, please stay away from the pen.
