HONEY BEE REVIEW

HONEY BEE REVIEW Submitted by Nikhil Edakkott
Director turned actor Lal’s son Jean Paul Lal’s HONEY BEE is yet another example of ‘a cliché story with some elements of new generation gimmicks’.To categorize the film,it’s a action-romance with adult comedy ingredients.
SCRIPT:Story happens in the back drop of Kochi[or film maker’s ‘underworld Kochi’].Under some ‘unimaginable’ circumstances a group of friends gets in to some big trouble, and the main plot comes when they tries to escape from these troubles.Bhavana and Asif realizes their untold love on her night before marriare and they elopes.Eventhough the story is an unthinkable bullshit, the treatment is somewhat fresh. The screenplay has some scenes which has never been tried in Malayalam industry. The film is exclusively an adults only comedy[I’ve counted about 30 ‘m’ word] .As the name suggests the film has multiple occations of booze scenes, which are very well picturised. Some underworld ‘kathi’s’ are also present,’the blocking of the entire Kochi’ and ’the marijuana gang operation of kerala police’ are unbearable for the common sense of the common audiences.Dialogues are the best in this section.Lal Jr used the kochi slang in the entire sequences. The tit for tats, cheesy dialogues and adult comedies are cunningly incorporated in to every scene. The timely added counters of Sreenath Bhasi actually saved the film from going into dragging, especially in tension scenes. The film never makes any lag feeling at any point of time.
DIRECTION:Jr.Lal has done a pretty neat job in direction. The locations of fort kochi are captured as very dark and groovy.I liked the entire color tone of the film. The usage of songs are brilliant, never feels like a song is there.Casting is superb. The chasing sequence is the best visual scene in the movie.
ACTING:Sreenath Bhasi and Baburaj steals the entire show. All other actors are overshadowed by their performance.Their timing and dialogue rendering was awesome.Asif Ali once again did an ‘underplay-overplay shuttle’.Bhavana did a good performance.Lal on the other hand stealed the show with his sharp dialogue delivery and looks.Balu played AMbro shoed us some new mannerisms of natural acting.
TECHNICAL:DOP is Alby.,who has done a decent job.Editing by Ratheesh raj is fast and goes with the entire pace of the film. The stunt direction by Anparivu is an another positive thing.
MUSIC:All the Songs are composed by Deepak songs, which are good as a whole. The ‘kalyana pattu’ is different from the usual Deepak Dev style. The Soundtrack is also by Deepak Dev.The main title of Lal’s gang is classy and stylish.
If you want to spend some good time in theatre,HONEY BEE by Jean Paul Lal is a good choice. In my verdict, this movie will make some positive mouth publicity among the people.
